QUESTION NO. 5
QUESTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
To ask the Chief Executive for an updated, accurate list of area-specific tree removal, tree pruning, stump removal and tree planting scheduled for the next six months in Lucan, North Clondalkin and Palmerstown and if a statement could be made on the matter?
REPLY:
The following areas - Palmerstown Woods, St Andrews / The Fairways, Palmerstown Lawn, Close and Green, Lealand, James Connolly Park and Wheatfields - are scheduled for tree pruning on the current Tree Maintenance Programme, however it is likely that some of these locations will be carried over for completion in 2020. In advance of works being carried out, a full survey of all trees will be undertaken to determine the extent of the requirement for tree maintenance. Arising from the survey, any works considered necessary will be scheduled.
Tree works have been completed to date as part of this ongoing programme at Alpine Heights and Oakwood Grove in Clondalkin. Crown-lifting and tree removals were completed earlier this year at Hillcrest, Lucan. Remedial tree surgery works were completed recently on the mature trees in Riversdale estate, Palmerstown. Tree maintenance works are scheduled for the mature trees at Monastery Rise - Monastery Road open space also Wheatfields Crescent - Collinstown Park boundary in the coming weeks. The Council's tree maintenance crew are currently completing tree pruning works in Ashwood,Clondalkin. Outstanding works will be completed in Glenfield estate and Sarsfield Park over the coming months.
The Council's tree stump removal programme will commence within the next month.
Potential sites for tree planting have been inspected to assess their suitability for new trees, considering factors such as services, sight lines, warning signs and traffic signals, distance from public lighting columns, space for future crown and root growth, etc. A total of 620 new and replacement trees are proposed for planting in the Lucan, Palmerstown and Clondalkin areas as part of winter 2019 / spring 2020 Tree Planting Programme. Details of the proposed Tree Planting Programme will be published on the Council’s website in the coming weeks.
