MOTION NO. 14
MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
That the Chief Executive outlines a solution to facilitate AGP FC in the area adjacent to the multi-use games wall off the Newcastle Road, as while the SDCC maintains the grass area is for use by the general public, and not exclusively for the club, it has been used by AGP FC for its academy for some considerable time and the current landscaping means that the remaining grass section will not be suitable for football, even though the club says it was given a commitment that it would be.
REPORT:
The Ball Wall currently under construction at the entrance to the Esker Park section of Griffeen Valley Park is a result of a local public vote as part of the Lucan "300K have your say" Participatory Bugetary Process. This project scored quite highly in the results and SDCC proceeded to consult further with stakeholders in the area.
AGP FC are currently allocated a number of soccer pitches at Griffeen Valley Park for their use under licence. With regards to the green space surrounding the Ball Wall; this area is not a designated pitch nor a training area, and SDCC have not allocated this area to any team for their use. At meetings to date the club were informed of this and acknowledged this to the council.
As part of the works for the Ball Wall some of the arisings have been used to level out uneven ground in this surrounding area. The Ball Wall construction stage is still underway and part of the completion works includes the cultivation and seeding of this grass area.
