QUESTION NO. 17

QUESTION: Councillor Alan Edge

To ask the Chief Executive for an update concerning the Dodder Greenway and specifically how it will relate to the play-trail.

REPLY:

The Part 8 for the Dodder Greenway was passed by the Council in 2017. A framework for contractors has been set up and the first stage of this Greenway will be going out for tender by week ending September 20th. The first phase entails the construction of the proposed bridges. Contruction is planned to start in the new year but as always is weather dependent.

The current Part 8 is underway for 3 no playspaces, connected by a linking trail in Dodder Valley, and will enhance and improve facilities along the proposed Dodder Greenway; creating points of interest and areas of activity at appropriate locations along the route. Both the Greenway and the play trail will complement each other. The Greenway enhancing accessibility and encouraging activitiy and guiding visitors through the Dodder Valley and the playspaces providing places for local children and visitors to play.

Both the play trail and the Dodder Greenway route follow the line of an existing foothpath through the park; the play trail does not propose extensive lengths of new footpaths; it entails the placement of play sculptures and play equipment along the route of the existing footpaths (some access may be required from existing footpaths to equipment to facilitate disabled access).

The proposed Dodder Greenway also follows the line of the existing footpaths and will entail widening the existing footpath to facilitate shared usage.
