MOTION NO. 6

MOTION: Councillor B. Lawlor

That this Area Committee requests that the Council Housing Director does not allow any works being carried out at Glencarrig Nursing Home Firhouse road pending the outcome of a Section 5 appeal that was lodged with An Bord Plenala on the 4th June 2019.

REPORT:

A proposal was received in relation the provision of supported residential accommodation at the former Glencarrig Nursing Home.  Following examination of the proposition from DePaul, an overview and rationale for the proposal was circulated to the local elected members in July and a briefing by the Council and the proposed service provider, DePaul, was held for those elected members that were available at that time.  In addition, De Paul have been engaging in local consultation and held an information meeting for local residents on Tuesday 27^th August. The project is supported by the HSE and the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive and will proceed as planned unless there is a determination to the contrary by An Bord Pleanala.

DePaul is a charity supporting individuals, couples and families experiencing homelessness.  South Dublin County Council is acutely aware of the need for the provision of appropriate housing and related services to meet the needs of housing applicants and homeless persons including Children.
