MOTION NO. 15
MOTION: Councillor L. O'Toole
That this Area Committee ask the Chief Executive to report on any issues in relation to quality of the Griffeen River and to make comment on whether it’s suitable for dogs to drink from the river. Could the management reconsider implementing a drink tap within the dog park?
REPORT:
Water quality in rivers varies over time and the sensitivities of different dogs to river water quality can also vary. Specifically, in relation to the Griffeen river South Dublin County Council (the Council) has commenced a large water quality improvement project for the river - the Dublin Urban Rivers LIFE project. Currently, the River Griffeen is classified as Moderate status which is one step below the desired Good status. It is anticipated as this project progresses there will be a significant improvement and consistency in water quality of the Griffeen river. It is also noted the Council has recently tendered for the installation of drinking water points for our public parks which will include a point for the Griffeen Park.
