QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

"To ask the Chief Executive if there has been any approaches from the owners of the former VL Byrne site in Palmerstown since the recent decision of An Bord Pleanala or if any discussions have taken place with the owners?"

REPLY:

Planning permission was refused in December 2018 by An Bord Pleanala for a strategic housing development (SHD) at the old Vinny Byrne site in Palmerstown. The site is highly prominent at the junction of Kennelsfort Road Lower and the old N4 (now the R148). The application for 303 apartments was refused for a variety of reasons which included the scale, massing and layout of the proposed development. Access from a single point on the Kennelsfort Road was also an issue.

It is understood that the applicants wish to develop the site and overcome the reasons for refusal. However, the Planning Authority has not had any further pre-planning as part of the formal SHD process.
