QUESTION NO. 13

QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

To ask the Chief Executive if he would present an update for Teen Spaces in the Tallaght Area Committee area; will he give details in each case including information on the schedule being followed and in reporting will he also state if there are any plans to extend Teen Space to other areas and will he make a statement.

REPLY:

The proposal in relation to the provision of teenage facilities has been approved by the Council with capital funding also being approved. In 2019 it is intended to progress the projects at the following locations:

In relation to the Tallaght area the proposals are as follows:

Kingswood Open Space:

Giant bench as a formal meeting area for teenagers (as agreed during the playspace programme), include other large play type equipment for older children and wi-fi provision with a provisional estimate of €40,000

Avonbeg Open Space:

A MUGA type facility was agreed in principal during the playspace programme, close to the existing playspace with a provisional estimate of €80,000

These projects are at an early design stage and some further consultation is currently underway. The programme cannot be fully confirmed as yet. However an outline stage programme is as follows: The preliminary design for these projects are underway and , once complete,  will be subject to detailed design and the required procurement and tender processes. Subject to successful procurement processes the programme for construction will be agreed with the successful contractor. Public Realm are currently in discussions with the Broadband Officer in relation to accessing grants to provide for broadband access.
