QUESTION NO.9

QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

To ask the Chief Executive if he would present an update on the Tallaght Tourism Strategy being pursued by the Council and will he make a statement in respect of the matter.

REPLY:

The Council's Tourism Strategy, 'A Tourism Strategy for South Dublin County 2015-2020' encorporates initiatives planned for the County inlcuding the Tallaght area.

Our tourism brand, Dublin's Outdoors emphasises the importance of Tallaght at the gateway to the Dublin Mountains.

The Dublin Mountains Visitor Centre remains under assesment by An Bord Pleanála with an additional further information request made in February 2019.  A response to this is to be submitted before 7th February 2020.

The third stand of the Tallaght Stadium will be officially lanuched on Sunday 24th March 2019.  An options report was presented at the December Council meeting in 2018 re the development of the North Stand and the remodelling of the Main Stand.  It is anticipated that a tender for the Part 8 design of the North Stand and Main Stand modifications, will be advertised in Q2 of 2019, with the Part 8 Consultation process to follow.

The U17 European Championships are being held in Ireland during 03/05/19 to 19/05/19, with 16 teams participating.  Seven (7) games will be held in Tallaght Stadium, as well as one (1) quarter, one (1) semi final and the Championship Final.

Sean Walsh Park attained Green Flag status in 2018.  The Public Realm section are considering other candidate parks for 2019.

The detailed design for the Dodder Greenway is almost complete.  Once completed, the scheme will be divided into phases and it is anticipated that it will be delivered over a 3 year period.  The Council plan to issue a tender for the construction of the bridges (4 no.) along the route this summer.  It is anticipated that these bridges will be completed in 2019.

 The Public Realm section are to issue a tender for the construction of a greenway within Kilttiper Park very shortly.
