QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons

"To ask the Chief Executive to look at holding talks on teenager and anxiety for Parents in Clondalkin Library and to make contact with the HSE in this regard?"

REPLY:

 "As part of the Healthy Ireland at your Library initiative, South Dublin Libraries provide a range of resources, information, services and events, including talks to support customers, including teenagers and parents in our communities. So far this year we held talks on the following topics in Clondalkin Library:

• Anxiety - 'Helping Children who worry too much', delivered by assistant psychologists from Cherry Orchard Hospital as part of their outreach programme. Parents with children of all ages attended, including teenagers, who found the talk beneficial. There was a question and answer session at the end.
• Exam Stress, delivered by Psycotherapist Deirdre O'Shea, aimed at teenagers sitting exams and their parents.
• 'Help your child grow up resilient and strong', delivered by Counsellor and Psychotherapist Stella O'Mahony. This talk aimed to give parents some practical advice to help their children grow up confident, resilient and strong.

As well as the above talks a comprehensive collection of books on health and wellbeing are available in all our branch libraries. Further E-books, E-audio and E-magazines on health related topics are available in libraries which can be downloaded from home with your library membership card".
