QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor S. Holland
"To ask the Chief Executive for a briefing on the recent bronze age discoveries on the Cosgrave site, to include the archaeological report and plans for preservation."
REPLY:
Section 26 of the National Monuments Act 1930 (as amended) requires that excavations for archaeological purposes must be carried out by archaeologists acting under an archaeological excavation licence. Such licences are issued by the National Monuments Service. In this regard, SDCC has no role in the archaeological process associated with this site and are therefore not in a position to provide a briefing on the matter.
