South Dublin County Council Crest

MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM/TEMPLEOGUE-TERENURE AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, March 12, 2019

MOTION NO. 3

MOTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan

"That this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive to present a report on the situation regarding the Firhouse Educate Together Secondary School and the fact that they currently have no site."

REPORT:

An Bord Pleanala refused outline planning permission for construction of an educational campus comprising a primary school and post-primary school, and playing pitch at a site to the east of Ballycullen Road (zoned ‘Rural’ (RU)) on 20th February 2019. This decision upheld the refusal issued by South Dublin County Council for the proposal.

South Dublin County Council works with the Department of Education and Skills, under a nationally agreed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to proactively identify and acquire sites for new primary and post-primary schools and to support the Department’s Schools Building Programme. The Department of Education and Skills and South Dublin County Council will continue to work together under the MoU in relation to the identification and acquisition of an alternative site for a post primary school to serve the Firhouse area.

Representatives of the Planning Department and the DES will meet in the coming weeks to identify possible alternative sites in the catchment.
