MOTION NO. 1
MOTION: Councillor D. O'Brien
Cathaoirleachs Business
That this Area Committee requests that the Chief Executive improves the entrances into the Dog park in Griffeen Park. Currently it is very mucky, and water logged, and users are reporting that it is very dangerous. There are also a lot of holes in the park, can these be filled in?
REPORT:
The two corral areas at both entrances to the dog run were upgraded in 2018 as part of the Public Realm Improvement Works Programme. The works have now highlighted the condition of the surface once you pass through the corral area into the dog run. The entrance nearest the River Griffeen tends to see more use and the surface at this location is suffering as a result. While the upgrade of this area was not included in the 2019 Improvement Works Programme, arrangements will be made to have this matter addressed as soon as there is an opportunity within the works programme to include it.
The holes in the dog run have been filled on numerous occasions since the dog run was provided. The most recent filling occurred when the bench was installed earlier this year. The holes will be filled again however it must be emphasised that the dog owners have a role to play in this matter by preventing their dogs from digging holes in the first instance.
