COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, February 26, 2019
MOTION NO. 17
MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
That this Area Committee meets with the NTA and TII to specifically discuss the practicalities of obtaining the funding streams required to further the objective we inserted into the 2016-2022 Development Plan for a grade separated junction at Kennelsfort Road/R148 intersection, something badly needed to manage traffic flows to revitalise the Palmerstown village area in terms of retail, tourism and heritage.
REPORT:
This junction has been discussed previously by SDCC with the NTA and TII, to date no funding has been approved.
In Table 6.5 of the County Development Plan 2016-2022, a grade separated junction for the Kennelsfort Road/R148 intersection is included in the 6 year road programme, subject to available funding. However, the project has not been identified in the 3 year Capital Programme 2019 - 2021 as funding has not been identified. It was estimated that funding in excess of €40M would be required to complete such works.
If this motion is passed, a request will be issued to both the NTA and TII, seeking a meeting with this ACM to discuss the funding of a grade separated junction at the Kennelsfort Road/R148 intersection.
