European Action Week Against Racism
REPLY:
European Action Week Against Racism will take place between 16-24 March providing the opportunity for the Council's Social Inclusion Unit to join in an approach across Europe to show that no matter the distance between us, we are all united in our efforts to combat discrimination, united in our goal to create cooperative, diverse European societies under the slogan Time To Be UNITED.
The Council’s Social Inclusion Unit (SIU) has arranged a number of activities in this regard including:
- An art competition for schools and the public to afford them the opportunity to convey personal messages against racism (closing date for entries is 5th March).
- A number of schools in the County will host multicultural days highlighting diversity.
- The SIU and Sports & Recreation team are distributing anti-racism packs and stickers at the Council's cross county running events to highlight anti-racism.
- Sports & Recreation team and FAI Development Officers will deliver a “Show Racism the Red Card” programme to clubs (see link to YouTube clip with Irish sports stars).
In addition consideration will be given to how best to elevate the Ant-Racism message in tandem with the Council's Social Inclusion Week later in 2019.
