QUESTION NO.18
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
"To ask the Chief Executive if he would confirm plans for the effective delivery of Library services to the local community while the new Castletymon Library is under construction and will he also give details of how those arrangements are being conveyed to the local community and will he make a statement?"
REPLY:
"The mobile library service continues to provide services to the local community, while the new library at Castletymon is under construction. The mobile calls every Thursday from 2.00pm-4.00pm outside St. Aengus Community Centre and this service is going well. In addition the mobile calls to Avonbeg Road, Bolbrook on Tuesdays from 4.00pm-5.00pm; Keadeen Avenue, Greenhills on Wednesdays from 6.00pm-6.25pm and Kilnamanagh outside the school from 6.30pm- 7.00pm.
Storytime is being offered in Scoil Aonghusa, Balrothery, in January as part of the Healthy Ireland at your Library initiative. There is currently a programme of support to Senior Cycle Students being run at the County Library which schools in the area have been invited to. The programme includes Maths Grinds for Leaving Certificate students with experienced tutors on hand to help students. There is also a Graphic Novel/Comic workshop with illustrator Philip Barett on Wednesday 13th and 27th February at 10.00am. A Harry Potter Schools Quiz will take place on 7th February with local schools invited.
The mobile library carries details of upcoming events in the 'What's Happening' brochure, which is also distributed to St. Aengus Community Centre. Direct contact with local schools is made by staff inviting class/individual participation. Upcoming events are advertised on social media and the community can subscribe to online newsletters from the library service. Details are available at http://www.southdublinlibraries.ie "
