MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

"That this committee asks for a report into what community space has been delivered in Newcastle in tandem with all the new housing and a report into a community centre/space at Ballynakelly.  Also to outline what future gains can the people of Newcastle expect in relation to community space in light of all the new housing expected to be built in Newcastle and the vast development and expansion of Grange Castle nearby."

REPORT:

The Council has adopted a Local Area Plan for the future expansion of the Newcastle Village area and will work on that basis to explore options and make provisions for additional community space.

The Community Services Department is also open to examining and working with local groups/organisations to explore the community needs within the Newcastle area, this includes exploring options that may exist for additional community facilities should needs for additional space be confirmed.
