It should be noted that access to CBL has meant that homeless applicants can now acquire homes directly through CBL rather than awaiting allocation through homeless priority.

There are also a significant number of homeless applicants awaiting formal allocation of properties that have been offered to them in respect of new schemes, re-lets/voids and properties becoming available due to transfer of existing tenants. These will result in a significantly increased number of homeless applicants being accommodated by year end.

Housing Need of Over 55s

There are currently 553 identified housing/transfer applicants where one or more of the main applicants is aged 55 or over. The breakdown of their identified housing need is as follows:

The transfer applicants identified above are only those who have specifically requested downsizing to smaller accommodation. There will be further applicants for transfer aged 55 and over on the transfer list looking for one and two bed accommodation but they will have to be identified from cross-referencing with the rents database as their transfer application does not require specific age information.

There are also a significant number Council rented dwellings where the tenants are in properties significantly exceeding their housing need who will be eligible for downsizing to smaller, older persons accommodation and as such accommodation is planned and delivered, these will be subject to specific contact to explore downsizing transfer options to effect more efficient use of housing stock.
