QUESTION NO. 10

QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner

"To ask the Chief Executive what measures are in place to address the Crayfish Plague in the River Camac?"

REPLY:

In response to crayfish protection (an Annex II species of the EU Habitats Directive) and the Crayfish plague South Dublin County Council commissioned a crayfish survey of the lower Camac River in July 2018. The results showed a healthy, numerous and breeding population in the river which is encouraging. In response to protection of crayfish the Council, working with the Local Authority Community Water Officer and through that office the Friends of the Camac group, is producing a warning and information notice regarding measures for the prevention of disease in the river. These signs will be going to print in the very near future and will then be deployed on the river.
