Social Inclusion Week

Every year South Dublin County Council promotes and celebrates Social Inclusion with a week long series of events aimed at highlighting the work of the Council to reduce social exclusion and poverty.  Social Inclusion Week 2018 takes place from 19th-25th November with 96 events organised to take place over the course of the week highlighting diversity and creativity in the County.

During the week there will be a varied programme of events including Literacy Awareness Training for staff, Intercultural Evening, IT Workshops, Floristry Workshops, Art and Craft Workshops, Coffee Mornings, Toddler Time, Prize Bingo, Pamper Day for people with disabilities, amongst many others with some of the highlights of the week oulined below:

Social Inclusion Week Launch Event:

Mayor Mark Ward will launch the week’s events in the Council Chamber on Monday, 19th November at 12 noon.  Michael Darragh MacAuley, star of the Dublin GAA football team, will be the guest speaker and the launch will also feature music from RAMS In Rhythm, an Active Retired Choir, with light refreshments being served.

Celebration of Social Inclusion through the Performing Arts 

Our annual talent show - Celebration of Social Inclusion through the Performing Arts - will be held in the Civic Theatre, Tallaght on Sunday 25th November 2018 at 8pm. We have 19 acts including singers, songwriters, acrobats and dancers from a diverse array of countries such as India, Nepal, Philippines, Brazil.

Primary School Competition

The awards ceremony for the primary school arts competition which attracted some 300 entries will be held in the Council Chamber on Wednesday, 21st November at 4pm.

Annette Halpin Memorial Tea Dance

On Thursday 22nd November the Community Services Department will host our annual Annette Halpin Memorial Tea Dance in the Red Cow Inn, Clondalkin for the older residents of the County. This event is a great success each year and over 250 attendees are expected from around the County to dance the night away with entertainment from Declan Gallagher & Company and a showcase of local dancing talents.

South Dublin Migrant Integration Forum Open Night

South Dublin Migrant Integration Forum is hosting an open night in Rua Red on Tuesday the 20th November at 6.00 pm. The aim of the group is to provide a forum for representatives of New Communities in South Dublin County Council. It is intended to showcase each community’s culture, traditions and diverse backgrounds.
