QUESTION NO. 4
QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
"To ask the Chief Executive to provide a report on the playground which was to have been provided in respect of the works on the new schools in Firhouse, and to make a statement on the matter?"
REPLY:
A playground was included in a Part 8 permission, approved in November 2014, to deliver two temporary schools for a period of four years in Firhouse. The playground was a Stage 2 element of the Part 8 as a planning gain for the community to be constructed after the temporary schools were removed.
The temporary schools were put in place and subsequently, two permanent schools were constructed by the Department of Education and Skills (DES) under planning permission SD15A/0226. These schools are recently completed and open.
The exact content of the Part 8 cannot be implemented as the permanent school car parking is constructed at the proposed location of the playground. Notwithstanding the proposed location being unavailable, the principle of the playground as part of the Part 8 permission is established.
The Forward Planning Section have commenced communication with the Public Realm section and the Development Department in relation to the playground design, a suitable location and the identification of a budget for the proposal.
