COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM/TEMPLEOGUE-TERENURE AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, November 13, 2018
MOTION NO. 4
MOTION: Councillor D. Looney
"That this Area Committee notes with concern the decision to remove the public litter bin service from the Limekiln Avenue bus terminus without the input of local representatives; that this Committee further notes that it was previously told that the Council officials would liaise with Dublin Bus as to the issues in this area; and that this Committee asks for a report on all contact with Dublin Bus regarding this matter. Noting a petition of 125 local residents calling for restoration of the bin service, this Committee calls on the Council to reinstate a suitable and appropriate bin service for the hundreds of bus users and pedestrians who use this site every day."
REPORT:
The Council has a duty of care to its employees and in order to protect the health and safety concerns of staff it was considered that the removal of the two litter bins at the Bus terminus in Greenhills Park at Limekiln Avenue was the best solution.
The Council’s supervisor has been in contact with Dublin Bus on two occasions to discuss the possible cause of this issue and Dublin Bus will investigate the matter.
Since the removal of the litter bins the area has been monitored for litter and cleaned when necessary. However as a result of the public demand for the reinstatement of the litter bin, one will be placed in a suitable area at the Limekiln Avenue.
