MOTION NO. 2
MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins
"That this committee gets a comprehensive traffic management report for the village of Rathcoole and it's surrounds and any proposals to increase flow through the village during peak times."
REPORT:
Various traffic counts already exist for Rathcoole Village. They all highlight serious congestion particularly at a.m. peak hours and note increased volumes during evening rush hours.
The traffic derives from high levels of trip generation for work related traffic and to a lesser extent from school related drop-off. The location of the Rathcoole interchange Overbridge with the N7 while acting as a significant release valve for traffic exiting Rathcoole also acts as the principle means of access to Newcastle and its adjoining Greenogue Industrial Estate. The only significant contributor South Dublin County Council made to improving traffic flows in the village was the introduction in 2017 of a controlling traffic signal on Fitzmaurice Road.
At the recent Deputation meeting for Rathcoole, the Deputation requested a morning peak HGV ban in Rathcoole Village. This will be trialed on the completion of the R120 upgrade in Q1 of 2019. This will have a positive effect on traffic flow.
