QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons

"To ask the Chief Executive for an update on previous motions and questions on a Library and how this can be achieved, that would serve Newcastle , Rathcoole and Saggart?"

REPLY:

As outlined at both the May and June Clondalkin ACMs the current capital programme 2018-2020 provides for the provision of libraries at North Clondalkin and Castletymon in Tallaght. The contracts are signed for the North Clondalkin project and construction will commence in September. Tenders for the Castletymon project were returned in August and are currently under review with the Quantity Surveyor. It is anticipated that work on Castletymon will commence towards the end of November 2018.

The provision of additional libraries requires a major commitment in resources both in terms of capital investment, staff, and day-to-day running costs. The South Dublin County Council Library Development Plan 2018-2022 includes an action to explore...regional service points... in fast growing areas of population, which may include library service to Newcastle, Rathcoole and Saggart.
