Flavours of South Dublin 2018
REPLY:
This year's Flavours of South Dublin Festival took place on Sunday 24th June in Rathfarnham Castle. Circa 9,500 people attended the event over the course of the day, this is an increase of 1,500 people over 2017. The entertainment was provided by 20 multi-cultural South Dublin groups which ranged from acrobats to Irish music to India and Venezuelan dancers.
The festival involved 15 community stalls and 19 local food producers, showcasing their produce; craft and cultural items as well as the introduction of an intercultural cooking demonstration kitchen where 5 different chefs showcased their dishes to a packed marquee, the demo kitchen was part-funded by Councillor's expenses set aside in the budget.
The demonstrations were recorded and these recordings will be launched at Social Inclusion Week and will be made available through the Council's social media and through the South Dublin Migrant Integration Forum.
A provision of €40,000 was made in the Council’s 2018 budget for the event.
The 2017 festival has been shortlisted for a Chambers Ireland Award.
