MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 18

MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty

"That this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive reports on the renovation plans for the Ballyowen Community Centre, including reported plans to reduce the area and raise the rents for non-profit community services such as Liffey Sound and outlines whether a more workable solution can be found rather than to penalise successful service provided by volunteers."

REPORT:

The Ballyowen Community Centre like all other Council Community Facilities is managed by an independent local management committee, (a Company Limited by Guarantee) with a Management Licence to run and manage the facility on behalf of the Council.

The Management Committee in consultation with Community Services recently submitted proposal for some internal renovation works to both update, modernise and increase the amount of useable space within the facility, with works to include the installation of a reception desk, an extra office space and increased storage provisions. All works have been assessed and approved by the Council's Architectural Services Department.

Like all Management Committees, the committee is tasked with both managing the building to address and respond to local community needs as well as managing the building to bring in sufficient income to cover the running costs of the building and to ensure all tenants and users of the building make a reasonable contribution to this.
