QUESTION NO. 1

QUESTION: Councillor D. O'Brien

"To ask the Chief Executive for a update on the lane cleaning program in the Palmerstown area and for this report in include the total number of reported dumping incidents so far this year and the total number of dumping incidents reported last year to this council. This report will also include the cost to this Council of having this dumping removed?"

REPLY:

The laneways on Kennelsfort Road Upper are maintained by the Public Realm Section. The cleansing is carried out as required with dumping incidences targeted as they arise. The dumping incidences do not follow any particular pattern and the frequency of visits therefore varies from week to week.

In 2017 South Dublin County Council received 39 complaints in relation to illegal dumping/litter in the Palmerstown area compared to 11 complaints received to date in 2018 for the same area.

It is not possible to segregate the cleansing costs for the Palmerstown area as such costs include payroll, fleet and waste disposal costs are collated on a depot basis.
