QUESTION NO. 13

QUESTION: Councillor F.N. Duffy

"To ask the Chief Executive for a comprehensive update on the progress of the stabilisation works proposed to Edmondstown road (R116), south of the Merry Ploughboy?"

REPLY:

"In relation to the ongoing closure of Edmondstown Road for safety reasons, the Council have continued to progress discussions with the representatives of the landowner, at this stage the County Council’s Engineers have agreed the design provided of the works needed to repair the slope. Lab testing of core samples of material was required to inform the design and this took time to complete.

The Council understand the urgency of the works commencing and being completed in order that the road can reopen and have sought a date of commencement of works. We have been informed that Contractors have been on site to examine the site and to tender a price for the works.

At this point the Council are not satisfied that there is compliance with the Planning Enforcement and no commencement date has been provided to the Council, the Councils Law Agent is therefore proceeding with court action.

There is no date currently for the reopening of the road."
