MOTION NO.9

MOTION: Councillor P. Foley

"Could the Chief Executive outline the transport and infrastructure improvements being considered for the Ballycullen/Old Court area. A site has been acquired for a secondary school on Ballycullen Road and there is insufficient infrastructure in place to cater for existing levels of pedestrians, cyclists and traffic in this area – with residents reporting extremely long delays in this area (report already supplied to CE).

A planning application for a secondary school at this site should not be considered until proposals for improvements are put forward.  If this motion is passed, it should be forwarded to the Council’s Planning and Roads section and to the Department of Education for consideration."

REPORT:

"The County Development Plan and the Planning Permission are the extent of road improvements for this area. In parallel NTA are hoping to complete the Bus Connects project in the coming months and it is envisaged that there will be improvments in the bus network introduced. Cycling facilities have and will continue to improve. Local initiatives including traffic light sequence adjustment and minor road works will be carried out where an identified benefit will result."
