MOTION NO. 16

MOTION: Councillor B. Ferron

"That this Committee supports the erection of signage welcoming people to the County Town of Tallaght.  This Committee further notes that such signage is planned as part of the N81 upgrade.  This Committee also supports the Council in it's efforts to remove signs that have been erected illegally throughout the County."

REPORT:

"The Roads Department have a Wayfinding Signs Policy which was adopted by the Members in 2017.

Anyone wishing to erect wayfinding signs must apply to the Roads Department for same (application on our website) and if deemed appropriate the Roads Engineer will arrange to erect such signage upon payment of a fee.  There is also an annual Licence charge for same.   Roads Department are currently carrying out a survey of all wayfinding signs in the county to ascertain which ones were erected legally.  In cases where signs were illegally erected, the companies will be contacted and afforded a chance to remove same.  If signs are not removed, the Traffic Crew will do so.

The Economic Enterprise and Tourism Development Directorate are also currently working with Fáilte Ireland and the other Dublin Authorities on a tourist orientation project, including signage. It is expected that the consultants will complete their report shortly and this will provide guidance on the implementation of tourist/amenity signage in the County. The Public Realm Section will work with the Economic Tourism Development Directorate with regard to the welcome signage proposed for Tallaght in order to ensure it is incorporated into the scheme in accordance with the guidance developed."
