MOTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

"That this Tallaght Area Committee calls on the CEO to prioritise actions for appropriate works in Sean Walsh Park to facilitate an application for a Green Flag; will he appreciate the importance of this issue to the community and note the ongoing strong support of Tallaght Councillors and will he also outline the schedule being followed in respect of establishing Sean Walsh Park as a candidate park for a 2018 Green Flag."

REPORT:

"The Council is making an application to enter Sean Walsh Park in the 2018 Green Flag Award.

A Green Flag applicant is assessed under the following 8 criteria:

• A welcoming Place
• Health, Safe and Secure
• Well maintained and Clean
• Environmental Management
• Biodiversity, Landscape and Heritage
• Community Invovlement
• Marketing and Communication
• Management

 The process encourages a planned approach to management and maintenance of the area, identification of park users, knowledge of all aspects of site including history, biodiversity, landscape and social and physical setting. Included in the application is the outline of future plans for the park. The shorterm actions include:-

• Path construction in the extension of the park to link paths within the park and to facilitate walkers on the Dublin Mountain Way (provision made in the 2018 improvement works budget/programme) .
• Examination of the fountain in the lake in the park in order to get it working again
• Repairs to benches
• Launch of tree trail in Autumn
• Replacement of signs"
