Climate Change - Climate Action Regional Offices and Mitigation / Adaptation Plan
REPLY:
On 19th January 2018 the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Denis Naughten T.D., published Ireland’s first statutory National Adaptation Framework and announced funding of €10m to establish Local Authority Climate Action Regional Offices (CARO). There will be four offices, one in Dublin for the four Dublin Authorities, one in Kildare for the midlands region, and Mayo and Cork for the Atlantic Region North and South respectively. The offices will have a specialism as follows: Dublin will concentrate on urban climate issues, Kildare will focus on fluvial flooding issues, and costal issues such as errosion will be priority for the Atlantic offices. The Dublin Regional Office will be hiring four staff comprising; A Senior Engineer (or analogous), an Executive Engineer (or analogous), an Assistant Planner, and Administration staff as appropriate. SDCC and the other Dublin Authorities will need to assess how this will tie in to work already carried out/ underway with CODEMA.
The Draft Climate Action Plan 2018 -2023 has been circulated to the four Dublin Authorities by Codema. Comments from across South Dublin County Council have been submitted to Codema. The document has also been peer reviewed by Dr. Barry O'Dwyer of UCC and Climate Ireland. Lessons learned from the rcent storms, Storm Ophelia and Storm Emma will need to be incorporated in to the document. Codema are currently addressing the comments form South dublin County council staff and from the peer review and incorporating these into the document.
