COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, April 24, 2018
MOTION NO. 8
MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
"That this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive agree to a site meeting to examine potential long term solutions to issues of anti-social behaviour caused by groups gathering at the green area with steel fencing around it in the vicinity of (6 Abbeywood Court, Lucan). This area was previously owned by the developer, but was taken in charge by the council about five years ago. Residents have reported ongoing problems to Gardai involving issues such as drugs being handed through fences, noisy gatherings and dirt and litter problems and it needs to be dealt with strategically."
REPORT:
As requested under Motion 17 at the Lucan ACM in April 2017 it is proposed to provide a new railing between Abbeywood and Glenvale to restrict access between the two locations. The proposed boundary treatment involves the retention of the existing wall and railing and the construction of a new railing located 2 to 3 meters north of existing boundary line. The railing will run from the boundary wall of the last property at Abbeywood Court to the R136 boundary railing. The railing will be 2.2 metres high with flat bar (10 x 50mm) infills. Provision has been made in the 2018 Public Realm Improvement Works Programme for the railing. While the railing should assist with reducing some of the activities that are taking place, it is not a panacea and continuous contact with An Garda Siochána should be maintained by those living in the area. The details of the proposed works have been discussed with the resident closest to the locus.
Should this motion be passed a site meeting can be arranged with the elected members.
