QUESTION NO. 2
QUESTION: Councillor E. O'Brien
"To ask the Chief Executive to report on the current status of the report on the update of the Weston Aerodrome Planning Framework?"
REPLY:
On the 4 December 2017 the Land Use, Planning and Transportation Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) noted the recommendation of the Chief Executive’s Report (the Report) on the non-statutory Review of the land use planning framework governing the future development and operation of Weston Aerodrome.
The Report assessed issues raised during the non-statutory public consultation in the context of South Dublin County Development Plan 2016 - 2022 (the Development Plan) policy and objectives. Many of the matters raised fell outside the remit of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and are covered by other legislation. Those issues raised that related to land use planning can be addressed under the existing Development Plan policy and objectives as part of any planning application.
As a result there is no merit in seeking a variation to the Development Plan zoning policies or objective for the Aerodrome. The lands remain zoned “RU” which seeks “To protect and improve rural amenity and to provide for the development of agriculture”. Furthermore there is no change to Development Plan Section 7.8.2 entitled “Weston Aerodrome” which contains the planning policy and objectives which govern the future development of the Aerodrome.
