COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, April 24, 2018
MOTION NO. 19
MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
"That this Area Committee request the Chief Executive report on existing and planned Traveller-specific group housing and/or halting site provision required within the Lucan Electoral Area over the next five years; To outline whether any families currently living at a number of dangerous roadside locations are under the Council's duty of care and therefore require emergency accommodation as a matter of urgency; and if a statement can be made on the matter."
REPORT:
Under the provisions of the Traveller Accommodation Act 1998, South Dublin County Council is required to prepare, adopt and implement a Traveller Accommodation Programme to meet the accommodation needs of the county's indigenous Traveller Community, i.e. those families who have been resident in the county for at least three years prior to the adoption of South Dublin County Council's Traveller Accommodation Programme 2014-2018.
Currently in the Lucan Electoral Area, the following Traveller Accommodation Units have been provided.
Ballyowen Lane: 1 house and 10 Residential Caravan Bays
Haydens Lane Place: 8 Group Houses.
The current Traveller Accommodation Programme makes provision for the development of an additional infill development of 5 new Residential Caravan Bays at Ballyowen Lane. In addition there are 30 units of traveller accommodation to be provided at 4 different locations within the Adamstown Development and preliminary discussions have begun with the developers in relation to the provision of this accommodation.
At present there is only one family to whom we have a duty of care residing on the roadside within the Lucan Electoral Area and it is anticipated that they will be offered accommodation in a Residential Caravan Park Bay in the very near future.
