QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons
"To ask the Chief Executive to issue a report on road safety on Newcastle - what has been put in place to slow down traffic on entering the village and what safety measures have been put in place to protect residents walking to and from school from various parts of the village, what risk assessments have been carried out and what was the outcomes?"
REPLY:
Traffic calming ramps have been provided on Peamount Road between the Glebe Estate and the village.
A footpath and public lighting has been provided on Aylmer Road.
A 30km/h speed limit has been implemented in residential estates.
Major works have been undertaken in the vicinity of Lyons Roundabout at the entrance to the village from the Rathcoole direction which included:
removal of railings
renewal and extension of footways
kerb and island re-alignment
speed reduction measures entering and exiting the roundabout
pedestrian crossing up-grade
