MOTION NO. 4

MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

"That the this Committee agrees to change the crossing on Monastery Road to traffic lights with cameras to catch and punish dangerous drivers."

REPORT:

The location referred to is the Zebra Crossing adjacent to Round Towers GAA.  This will be referred to An Garda Síochána for attention and examined for any suitable treatment.

It should be noted that there is no provision for enforcement of traffic violations by Local Authorities whether by means of camera or otherwise.   This is a matter for An Garda Síochána in line with the provisions of Road Traffic Acts which set out the main provisions for motoring in Ireland including motorist's obligations and responsibilities.
