MOTION NO. 5

MOTION: Councillor M. Genockey

"That this Area Committee requests that measures are put in place to prevent cars from entering Glenshane Green in order to prevent ‘joyriding’ in the space, which has become completely intolerable and dangerous for residents in the surrounding area."

REPORT:

"Provision has been made in the 3 year rolling capital programme for the carrying out of boundary treatment works at parks which is aimed at removing the scourge of joyriding from parks.  Some of this work is currently underway at Butler McGee Park and further works are expected to be carried out at Killinarden Park and at Jobstown Park along it's boundary with Glenshane Estate.  While this work will hopefully address current issues in some park locations it does not include for the carrying out of any works in housing estates and open spaces. 

Once it has been established what kind of measures are required at Glenshane Green the matter will receive further consideration.  If access to the open space is to be restricted then this may be possible by erecting a low railing around the area.  If on the other hand traffic control measures are required on the road then this will require the involvement of the Roads Section in the matter."
