MOTION: Councillor D. O'Brien

"To ask the Chief Executive for a report on possible sites that this Council could buy on the open market in the Lucan LEA that could then be used for social housing."

REPORT:

South Dublin County Council owns a residential site of 0.25 acre at Lucan Rd, whereby Architects Department are currently examining the feasibility for the provision of Social Housing.

In addition, of the total land area of 178.5 acres of the Strategic Development Zone at Clonburris, 136 acres are within the boundary of the Lucan Local Electoral Area. The SDZ provides for strategic development in accordance with the approved planning schemes, once adopted.

South Dublin County Council does not currently have any plans to purchase land on the open market, in the Lucan LEA - however a watching brief is kept on the market for sites of an appropriate nature.

A full REPORT ON STRATEGIC APPROACH TO COUNCIL LAND BANK AND HOUSING DELIVERY along with an overview of Council owned lands was presented to the O P and F Committee on 17/10/14 http://intranet/cmas/documentsview.aspx?id=44489 with follow up presentations given since. A similar presentation can be provided to the Committee focusing on the residentially zoned land in the County in Council ownership.The County Architect continues to examine any Council owned land with a view to its possibility for housing development.
