QUESTION NO. 1

QUESTION: Councillor R. Nolan

"To ask the Chief Executive, if someone on the South Dublin housing list wants to move say to Fingal housing list or any other Council list, are there penalties? For example will they lose time on the new list? Equally would they have penalties if the moved from another council list onto South Dublin?"

REPLY:

If a housing applicant with South Dublin County Council wishes to apply for housing with another local authority, they must close their file with South Dublin County Council and must open a new housing application with the other local authority. Their time on the South Dublin County Council housing list does not travel with them.  Equally an applicant with another local authority wishing to join our social housing waiting list, must close their file and apply with us.  Please note, applications will be assessed for eligibility for inclusion on South Dublin's social housing waiting list e.g. does the applicant have a connection to this area.

An applicant with South Dublin County Council can include another local authority housing area, i.e. housing with Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council and Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council, in their 'areas of preference' and are therefore considered for housing by that local authority from that date.  However South Dublin County Council continues to manage their housing application. The same applies for others wishing to opt for a housing area in South Dublin.
