MOTION NO. 6

MOTION: Councillor R. Nolan

"That this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive improve the lighting in the lanes between Wheatfield Road ad Oak Court Drive for security reasons."

REPORT:

These fittings are all on ESB Network poles. If the laneway is too narrow to provide access to a suitable ESBN approved maintenance vehicle, then ESBN will not allow us access to the pole for maintenance. In these cases, if there is an outage, ESBN will repair the fitting on our behalf if notified to do so.

However, they will not allow any upgrades as they have a policy to phase the hosting of these fittings out altogether. Our only alternative is to install our own columns (and associated underground connection) that can be manually lowered for maintenance purposes and are specially designed for paths and laneways.

This is a major cost/resource issue and is currently being addressed on a location by location basis.
