MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor V. Casserly

"That this Area Committee commends the efforts of staff during the recent snow storm but calls on the Chief Executive to explore options that we could include in future plans to clear priority pedestrian pathways for wheelchair users whom were isolated in the days and weeks during and after the storm. Whilst there were fantastic efforts to clear roads, snow/ice was moved in mounds blocking all dished kerbs which is creating ongoing difficulties."

REPORT:

In any storm as severe as Storm Emma, the primary focus will be on clearing the Main roads which include National Roads, Regional Roads and hospital routes. The last priority is housing estate roads and in clearing them initially the snow unfortunately may end up on footpaths and dished kerbs. Public Realm staff did clear footpaths but the priority was village centres and school approaches.
