COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE

QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
"To ask the CEO if he will report on the engagement by his officials with the Kilnamanagh Neighbourhood Watch committee in respect of lands at Treepark Road close to the Kilnamanagh Football Club site; will he note the concerns of the committee and indeed the wider community that action will be taken regarding the matter and will he make a statement?"
REPLY:
"The council convened a meeting with residents of Kilnamanagh including: the residents association, neighbourhood watch, the local GAA and Soccer Clubs as well as some local elected representatives and staff from public realm, at the open space to the east of Kilnamanagh estate on the 29th of January last. The agenda included a number of issues that have arisen in the area such as: bonfires that occur in the north-east corner of the estate at Halloween, burning of cars and dumping of rubbish.
It is felt a multi-pronged approach will be required to address the issues raised with input from a number of sections within the council, other stakeholders as well as the local community.
At the meeting; the area under the ownership / control of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) was seen to be an area that requires management; as the existing TII wall is broken at a number of locations and facilitates hiding of material within the scrubland / wooded area beyond. The woodland area is also quite overgrown and does not aid dumping control / passive surveillance etc.
Immediate Actions:
SDCC undertake to contact TII to discuss this area and see if they are willing / able to address any of these issues.
Public Realm will also liaise with the Climate Change section with regard to the possibilities of wetland development in the area and with Roads with regard to provision of car parking at the roadside to reduce the width of the road (and asssist in reduction of traffic speeds in the area).
The above actions will be progressed in the coming weeks.
Further areas to be progressed this year include the following:
Renovation of this corner of open space to bring it back into general use; with cultivation and re-seeding of the existing rough surface.
Inclusion of a perimeter path as part of the annual improvement works programme.
Review towards end of 2018:
After a review of actions outlined above; if it is felt further action is required; costs for keep-fit equipment along the line of the proposed perimeter path can be examined with a view to including in budget 2019."
