QUESTION NO. 2

QUESTION: Councillor K. Mahon

"To ask the Chief Executive to provide an additional bin at Dodder Valley Park Tallaght?

There are currently bins at the the Ahern's and Avonmore gates of the park. Can a bin be provided midway at the entrance at Bawnville or Newbawn?

The current design of bins, relative to their usage, does not appear to be fit for purpose for users or council workers charged with their maintenance.

Is there a better design available that may also be more suitable for positioning at points inside the park?" (picture provided for illustration)

REPLY:

"An additional litter bin will be provided as requested at one of the entrances to Dodder Valley Park in the Bawnville/New Bawn area.

The type of bin currently in use at Dodder Valley Park is the same as the majority of street litter bins in use around the County and is considered to be acceptable for use in both types of location.  An alternative type of bin has recently been installed in Sean Walsh Park and will be considered for use in Dodder Valley Park.  A change to a bin which has a slightly larger capacity may have benefits in terms of litter arising around the bin.  A slightly larger aperture may also resolve the issue of items not being deposited in the bin properly from time to time.  However it may also give rise to the disposal of bags of domestic waste which may also fit through a larger aperture."
