QUESTION NO. 15

QUESTION: Councillor D. O'Brien

"To ask the Chief Executive what progress has been made on this motion below that was passed in September 2016?"

50717 Councillor D. O'Brien Lucan Area Committee Lucan Area Committee Meeting 27th September 2016 Motions 14/09/2016

"To ask the Chief Executive to present a report on noise pollution in Palmers Estate in Palmerstown from the M50. While the M50 is a hugely important piece of transport infrastructure, it is not fair that those living close to it should have their quality of life affected. This area committee calls on the council and the National Roads Authority to come up with a solution to improve the quality of life for people living beside this road."

REPLY:

The Principal Env Health Officer reports that the Third Round of the European Environmental Noise Action Plan is currently being concluded for the Dublin region.  This is being jointly developed by the 4 Local Authorities in the Dublin Agglomeration area. The plan is aimed at managing Environmental Noise over the next 5 years. The M50 motorway is the busiest public road in the country and traverses three of the 4 Dublin authorities – namely Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown, South Dublin and Fingal.  Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) is also a key player in this noise mapping statutory procedure and has the responsibility for any noise mitigation measure on the major nation roads such as the M50.  They will be consulted by all the local authorities when it comes to writing our Action plans after the hot spot areas have been identified from the mapping.
