MOTION NO. 5

MOTION: Councillor K. Mahon

"This AC calls on the council to commit to regular clean ups at the green area between Bolbrook and the Whitestown Stream, including the clean up of bon fire sites from 2017. The area is prone to illegal dumping and during heavy winds sees the accummalation of waste from around the area.

Can the Chief Executive comment on whether some simple landscaping work would assist with encouraging better use of the area?"

REPORT:

"The large green space at Avonbeg/Avonmore/Bolbrook adjacent to the Whitestown stream suffers from a regular litter problem.  The area is currently being cleaned by the Council's Public Realm staff.  Arrangements will be put in place to have the area cleaned on a more regular basis, by both Council staff and the road sweeping contractor.

It has been agreed with this committee that the glass recycling bring bank which is located on Avonbeg Road will be removed from the area and consultation is currently under way with regard to the proposed relocation of the facility to a site close to the Bolbrook Enterprise Centre.  The removal of the facility from it's current location should assist in improving the litter situation in this area.

The proposal to carry out some landscaping works to improve the area will be examined.  The area will be examined for possible inclusion in the Council's tree planting programme in the future.

This area is regularly partolled by our Warden Service and any assistance in identification of culprits is encouraged."
