MOTION NO. 6

MOTION: Councillor C. Jones

"That this committee requests a progress report on the allocation of social and voluntary housing in Deerpark, Kiltipper and further an explanation for the reasons of the delay in allocations in respect of this matter."

REPORT

There are at present 119 social housing units and 149 Voluntary housing units under construction in Deerpark, Kiltipper. Work is progressing in a reasonable manner on the contract and progress has generally been in accordance with the agreed programme of works.

Due to the complexity of this innovative joint venture / partnership contract it was necessary to resolve several complex legal matters which were unique to this project.  The necessary legal preparation has been proceeding for some time in anticipation of the completion and handover of units. The Council's Law Agent is satisfied with the progress made on these legal issues and has indicated the he is now in a position to complete the legal matters.

The first units are undergoing their final completion checks at present and as soon as this snagging process has been completed to the County Architect's satisfaction, the units will be available for occupation. It is anticipated that the handovers will be rolled out on a phased basis commencing this month.
