Naming of St. Aidans New Housing Development
REPLY:
At the Housing Strategic Policy Committee meeting held on the 8th of February 2018 a report was brought forward on foot of a motion of the January Tallaght Area Committee meeting in respect of the naming of St. Aidans new rapid build social housing development. At the Tallaght Area Committee meeting a motion was discussed by members and it was agreed that the process of naming of social housing estates be addressed at the Housing Strategic Policy Committee. While it is noted that the naming of social housing estates is not a reserved function it was agreed that the process by which the naming is carried out should be reviewed by this committee. A protocol is to be agreed by the Housing Strategic Policy Committee in respect of the naming of social housing developments going forward which will allow input from the members on proposed development names. Following discussions with members at the Housing Strategic Policy Committee it was agreed to name the new estate in honour of the Irish suffragette Hanna Sheehy Skeffington. The name of the new estate has been agreed by the members of the Housing Strategic Policy Committee as Sheehy Skeffington Meadows.
