COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE

QUESTION NO. 13
QUESTION: Councillor D. Richardson
"To ask the Chief Executive to report on the number of families in hotels in Tallaght.
Also can the Chief Executive report on Tallaght Cross. What is transition period in Tallaght Cross?"
REPLY:
"At present there are 63 family units in Tallaght Cross.
Tallaght Cross is an important response for families who become homeless and who have no alternative other than commercial hotels. This emergency accommodation provides a secure and stable placement for families on an on-going basis unlike the insecurity of hotel accommodation especially during peak periods and holidays.
Each family pay a weekly rent, utilities and have the support of a key worker who works with them to exit homeless services as quickly as possible.
This is not a long term housing solution as families will move into houses and apartments that will be provided under social housing support such as HAP.
Families who are offered the 'self accommodation' option may look for accommodation in hotels in Tallaght and if successful this is managed by the Central Placement Service not South Dublin County Council."
