QUESTION NO. 6

QUESTION: Councillor P. Gogarty

"To ask the Chief Executive to report on the provision of insulation and other related home improvement measures for homes under the Council's remit in the Palmerstown, Clondalkin and Lucan areas over the last year, to specify how these improvements are going to be measured in terms of energy usage and cost savings to the householders themselves and to the local authority; and if a statement can be made on the matter?"

REPLY:

South Dublin County Council is continuing with Phase 1 of the Energy Retrofitting works for Council dwellings under funding received from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government. Under this programme attic, cavity wall and draught proofing measures, CFL bulbs, lagging jackets and energy advice are provided to eligible properties. In 2017 a total of 455 houses were energy retrofitted in the areas above. After the works have been completed a Building Energy Rating Assessment is undertaken on the property. These works will make a significant difference to the householders energy bills however Housing Maintenance are not in a position to assess the cost savings per individual house.

Furthermore South Dublin County Council's Windows and Doors Replacement Programme for 2017 carried out the following works to properties in the Palmerstown, Clondalkin, Lucan area.

Full window and door replacements were undertaken in 46 Council owned properties and a further 25 properties have had partial window/door replacements in the areas above. In total 71 units have had works undertaken during 2017.

The overall budget for full windows/doors replacements in 2017 was €570,000, with a further €150,000 allocated for the replacement of one off single windows/doors in urgent need of replacement which has been fully expended for 2017.
