QUESTION NO. 11

QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

"To ask the CEO to present a further report on actions being taken in respect of the most recent meeting attended by his officials with the Fettercairn Estate Management Committee; will he appreciate the concerns of the committee regarding crime and anti-social behavior in the estate and in reporting will he confirm his support for the Fettercairn Estate Management Committee and state how he might help their campaign to seek funding to facilitate additional days for their Estate Management worker?"

REPLY:

"The Council remains committed to the Fettercairn Estate Management Committee and several meetings have taken place in recent weeks regarding crime and anti-social behaviour.

10 Council Tenants have been interviewed in relation to allegations of Anti-Social behaviour and three warnings have been issued.

A number of  initiatives have been taken in recent weeks , following discussion with residents and inter departmental co-operation within the Council. Estate Management and Roads Department officials met at Drumcairn Parade in early February and agreed to higher the three ramps there to combat Anti social Behaviour and Joyriding at this location. A contractor has identified requirements and it is anticipated that works will begin in the coming weeks.

It was also agreed that dividing railings be provided at the paved area to the front of 19 – 24 Drumcairn Parade to block off this vulnerable area and thereby provide individual car parking spaces for residents of these houses. Following the procurement process, a contractor has now been appointed to carry out these works.

The Environmental Services have begun work on the perimeter railings around Butler Park ( including at Drumcairn Parade) and supporting poles have been erected there to strengthen the railings. Works at  the gates and entrance points are to be finished in the coming weeks.

Following on from the last meeting with the Fettercairn Estate Management Committee it was pointed out that scramblers are getting access at the corner of 93 Drumcairn Avenue and a meeting has taken place with the resident and representative from Estate Management and Parks Department and it was agreed to install barriers at this corner.

The allocation of funding is a matter for the Management Committee."
